More medical tourists come to the Tyumen region

Not only residents of Yamal and Yugra apply for high-tech medical care of Tyumen experts, but also residents of other regions of Russia and even foreign citizens. To compare: in 2014, 50 thousand patients living outside the Tyumen region applied for medical help to one of four regional medical institutions (the Regional Clinical Hospital No. 1, the Medical City, the Neftyanik Medical unit and the Regional Ophthalmological Clinic), while in 2017 there were already 80 thousand such patients.

This data was voiced by Inna Kulikova, Director of the Regional Department of Health, at the meeting attended by head physicians of four major healthcare institutions held by the Governor of the Tyumen region Vladimir Yakushev on January 18. The implementation of the order of the head of the region concerning the development of medical tourism, the system of medical logistics and service care for patients arriving to the Tyumen clinics was discussed at the meeting.

According to Inna Kulikova, medical tourists are showing interest in radionuclide diagnostics and therapy, as well as positron emission computer-assisted tomography. Also in high demand are the radical laparoscopic surgery for malignant tumors, cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, robot-assisted surgery, ENT surgery, laser vision correction and surgical treatment of cataract and glaucoma.

The clinics are engaged in systematical development of services offered to medical tourists as well as promotion of their capabilities, including the use of a special portal medturism72.ru. Today, the Tyumen healthcare holds leadership positions in many areas of high-tech medical care. The most modern equipment is employed here, while the qualified doctors are known even beyond the region, have substantial experience and possess world-class technologies. It is also important that the costs of high-quality surgery with high-tech medical care are significantly lower in the Tyumen clinics than in Europe. This is one of the key factors of consideration when the foreign citizens choose the Tyumen medical institutions over other ones.

Leading clinics continue to integrate their resources, plan to promote medical services under a single “Medical city” brand, as well as develop a network of medical representative offices.

“A few years ago in my message I said that the medicine of our region shall become a separate sector of economy as it meets the necessary conditions; few believed it then. Now we can see the first results of our consistent work. The flow of patients from other regions consciously choosing the Tyumen medical facilities grows constantly, just as the income from paid services of our leading clinics providing high-tech medical care. Medicine is becoming a major sector of the regional economy. We need to actively promote our capabilities in foreign markets, including neighboring countries,” said the Governor setting a task.
