Tyumen region develops the medical tourism comprehensively

30 November 2018

According to Governor Alexander Moor, medical tourism is one of the most promising and popular areas of tourism in the Tyumen region. He stated this at the working session discussing the matters of tourism development and competitive advantages of the region.

“We refer to the medical tourism not just as healing and treatment, although in this area our region can compete as well, offering high-tech medical care. We mean the entire complex here: rehabilitation, health resort services, recreation. The Tyumen region holds certain advantages in all these positions, and we definitely have to develop them. We need to create ready diverse products targeted at different consumers. We have excellent high-tech medical centers already serving patients from other regions of Russia and from abroad. The natural heritage and the hallmark of the Tyumen region are the thermal springs, healthy mineral water and mud baths, some of which were even inscribed in the UNESCO list. Health resorts as Sibir and Taraskul have not only national fame but international as well. They have good capabilities. So we don't fantasize but rather assess the reality and prospects clearly”, considers the Governor.

Alexander Moor noted that the region is considering the matters of establishment of a health resort zone. The head of the region said that, according to Ivan Ivanovich Nesterov, a renowned Tyumen geologist and scientist, the region has yet another unique resource: the deposits of medicinal oil in the Uvatsky district with its composition even surpassing the famous Azerbaijani Naftalan. According to the Governor, this presents another opportunity for development.

Maya Lomidze, Head of the Committee on the implementation of the import substitution program under the Expert Council for the development of tourism under the Ministry of Culture, noted that each region has its own health and medical centers. “Belokurikha is such a center of federal significance, established behind the Ural. However, it's not enough. The development of a health resort, medical and rehabilitation center in the Tyumen region allows for the creation of additional services for the tourists. The demand for these services is unquestionable. Your region has the opportunities to create a unique medical health product. It's not just promising, it's literally a gold mine”, suggested Maya Lomidze.

For reference:

Establishment of the multi-profile high-tech center “Medical city” largely contributed to the development of medical tourism. It's a huge complex of medical institutions united by common territory and infrastructure.

The project of development of medical tourism united the Regional Clinical Hospital No. 1, the Medical City, the Neftyanik Medical unit and the Regional Ophthalmological Clinic. Creation of such a cluster became the basis for the development of medical services' export in the direction of high-tech medical care. More than 70,000 consultations and more than 7,500 operations are carried out by the leading hospitals annually. Patients from CIS countries actively employ these services.

The Tyumen region has a developed network of health and recreational organizations: 18 health resorts and 51 recreation centers. Combined with the unique natural resources of the region (therapeutic muds, mineral water, thermal springs), they allow attracting significant tourist flow and provide ample opportunities for the further development of this type of tourism. The water temperature is about 38 degrees over the year. This water helps against conditions of musculoskeletal, nervous and digestive systems, etc.
