Summary of the environment and air state in the Tyumen region in 2016

Air

Air pollution monitoring in the Tyumen region is carried out at the stations of the Russian Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring Agency in Tyumen and Tobolsk.

In 2016 in Tyumen the excess of the maximum level of pollutants was found in 0.13% of air samples:
- at the intersection of M.Torez Street and Republic Street: nitrogen oxide and suspended substances;
- in Lugovaya Street: phenol;
- in Lunacharsky Street: suspended substances, formaldehyde;
- in Belinsky Street: suspended substances, phenol, formaldehyde;
- in Kotovsky Street: no excess concentrations of pollutants were found.

The increased levels of pollutants in the air are caused by the growth of traffic load in these districts of the city.

18 cases of unfavorable weather conditions were registered (20 in the same period of 2015).

The intensity of gamma rays exposure dose near Tyumen did not exceed natural background levels.

In 2016 in Tobolsk, as in the same period of 2015, no excess was registered.

Surface water

In 2016 the excess of the maximum level of the following pollutants was found:

the Tura river:
- in the boundaries of Salairka, upstream and downstream from Tyumen: petrochemicals, phenol, nitrite nitrogen, ammonium nitrogen, manganese;
- in the boundaries of Pokrovskoe: phenol, nitrite nitrogen, ammonium nitrogen, manganese;

the Ishim river:
- in the boundaries of Ilyinskoye, upstream and downstream from the city of Ishim: petrochemicals, phenol, nitrite nitrogen, ammonium nitrogen, manganese;
- in the boundaries of Abatskoye: petrochemicals, phenol, nitrite nitrogen, manganese;

the Tobol river:
- in the boundaries of Ievlevo: phenol, nitrite nitrogen, ammonium nitrogen, manganese;
- in the boundaries of Korkino, upstream and downstream from Yalutorovsk: petrochemicals, phenol, nitrite nitrogen, ammonium nitrogen, manganese.

17 cases of high manganese pollution was recorded in the rivers Tura, Tobol, Tavda, Uk and lake Andreevskoye. One case of high nitrite nitrogen pollution was recorded in the Demjanka river and one in the Vagaj river. No cases of high petrochemicals pollution were recorded (5 cases in the same period of 2015).

10 cases of radically high pollution were recorded (13 cases in the same period of 2015):
- manganese pollution: the rivers Vagaj, Tura, Turtas, Uk, Iska;

- petrochemicals pollution: the Irtysh river.

High and radically high water pollution are caused mostly by natural factors.

2 cases of low dissolved oxygen content in the Tura river were registered (4 cases of low and 2 cases of radically low content in 2015).

Emergencies with environmental footprint

As in 2015, no natural or man-caused emergencies with environmental footprint were recorded.
