Brief information about the state of the environment in the Tyumen region in the first half of 2018

16 July 2018

Ambient air

Ambient air monitoring in the Tyumen region is performed at Rosgidromet stations in Tyumen and Tobolsk.

In Tyumen, pollutants exceeding maximum allowable concentration were detected in 0.012% of the samples in the first half of 2018:

- at the intersection of the M. Torez and Respubliki streets: nitrogen oxide and suspended solids;

- at the Lugovaya street: suspended solids

No pollutants exceeding maximum allowable concentration were detected at the Belinskogo, Lunacharskogo and Kotovskogo streets as well at the intersection of the Irbitskaya and Kombinatskaya streets.

The high concentration of pollutants in the air is due to the increased traffic pressure on these districts of the city.

15 cases of unfavorable meteorological conditions (UMC) were recorded (22 for the same period of 2017). No cases of increased air pollution were recorded during the periods of UMC.

The exposure dose rate of gamma radiation near Tyumen did not exceed natural background values.

In Tobolsk, there were no excesses registered in the first half of 2018 just as for the same period of 2017.

Surface water

In the first half of 2018, the following pollutants were detected in the concentration exceeding maximum allowable limits:

the Tura river:

- in the area of Pokrovskoe village, above and below Tyumen: oil products, phenol, nitrite nitrogen, ammonia nitrogen, manganese, and COD (chemical oxygen demand);

- in the area of Salairka village: oil products, phenol, nitrite nitrogen, ammonia nitrogen, manganese, COD, and BOD5 (biochemical oxygen demand);

the Ishim river:

- in the area of Ilyinskoe village, above and below the Ishim city: oil products, phenol, nitrite nitrogen, ammonia nitrogen, manganese, COD, and BOD5;

- in the area of Abatskoe village: oil products, phenol, manganese, and COD;

the Tobol river:

- in the area of Ievlevo village: oil products, phenol, nitrite nitrogen, ammonia nitrogen, manganese, and COD;

- in the area of Korkino village, above and below the Yalutorovsk city: oil products, phenol, nitrite nitrogen, ammonia nitrogen, manganese, COD, and BOD5;

16 cases of high manganese pollution were detected in the water of the Tura, Tobol, Pyshma, Irtysh and Tavda rivers as well as the Andreevskoe lake (30 cases in the same period of 2017). 3 case of high nitrite nitrogen pollution was detected in the water of the Tura river (1 such case in the same period of 2017).

27 cases of extremely high manganese pollution (13 such cases in the same period of 2017) were detected in the Uk, Vagay, Iska, Tavda, Tura, Tobol, Demyanka, Turtas and Pyshma rivers.

High and extremely high pollution of the river water was mostly caused by natural factors.

No cases of low oxygen content in the river water were detected (2 cases in the same period of 2017).

Emergencies with environmental implications.

There were no natural or man-made emergencies with environmental implications registered, just as in the first half of 2017.
