Review of the environment state in Tyumen region in 2018

Atmospheric air

Observations of the atmosphere pollution in Tyumen region were made at the Russian meteorological service’s posts in the cities of Tyumen and Tobolsk.

In 2018, 0.23% of samples in the city of Tyumen exceeded the limits of pollutant concentrations:
- at the intersection of Moris Torez Street and Republic Street: carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, suspended solids and carbon black;
- Lugovaya St.: suspended solids, phenol and carbon black;
- Belinsky St.: suspended solids and phenol;
- Kotovsky St.: carbon black;
- at the intersection of  Irbitskaya Street and Combinatskaya Street: suspended solids;

The increased content of pollutants in the air is due to an increased traffic load in these areas of the city.

Forty cases of adverse weather conditions were recorded (41 in 2017). No cases of high levels of air pollution were recorded during periods of adverse meteorological conditions.

Exposure dose of gamma radiation in the area of the city of Tyumen did not exceed the natural background level.

No excess was registered  in the city of Tobolsk in 2018, as in 2017.

Surface waters

In 2018, the following pollutants exceeded the maximum permissible concentration:

the Tura river:
- within the borders of Pokrovskoye and Salairka settlements: petroleum products, phenol, nitrite nitrogen, ammonium nitrogen, manganese, COD and BOD5;
- upstream of the city of Tyumen: petroleum products, phenol, nitrite nitrogen, ammonium nitrogen, manganese, COD;
- downstream of the city of Tyumen: petroleum products, phenol, nitrite nitrogen, ammonium nitrogen, manganese, COD and BOD5;

the Ishim river:
- within the borders of Ilyinskoe settlement: petroleum products, phenol, ammonium nitrogen, manganese, COD and BOD5;
- within the borders of Abatskoye settlement: petroleum products, phenol, manganese, COD;
- upstream and downstream of the city of Ishim: petroleum products, phenol, ammonium nitrogen, manganese, COD and BOD5;

the Tobol river:
- within the borders of Iyevlevo settlement: petroleum products, phenol, nitrite nitrogen, ammonium nitrogen, manganese, COD;
- within the borders of Korkino settlement, upwards and downwards of the city of Yalutorovsk: petroleum products, phenol, nitrite nitrogen, ammonium nitrogen, manganese, COD and BOD5;

Two cases of exceeded limits of pesticides concentration (4.4 DDT) were registered in June 2018 in the Irtysh river – upstream and downstream of the city of Tobolsk each.

Seventeen cases of high manganese pollution of the waters of the Tura, Tobol, Pyshma, Iset, Irtysh, Tavda rivers and Andreevskoe lake were registered in 2018 (31 cases in 2017). There were 3 cases of high water pollution with nitrite nitrogen in the water of the Tura river (1 case in 2017).

Extremely high manganese pollution was registered in 27 cases (15 cases in 2017) – in the rivers Uk, Vagai, Iska, Tavda, Tura, Tobol, Demyanka, Turtas and Pyshma.

High and extremely high pollution of river water was mainly due to natural factors.

There were no cases of low level of dissolved oxygen in the water of the rivers (2 cases in 2017).

Emergencies with environmental consequences

As in 2017, in 2018 no natural or anthropogenic emergencies with environmental consequences were recorded.
