Environment Conditions in the Tyumen Region in 2019

04 March 2020

Atmospheric air

The atmosphere pollution monitoring in the Tyumen Region is carried out at the fixed monitoring stations of the Russian meteorological service in Tyumen and Tobolsk.

In 2019, the maximum allowable concentration of pollutants was exceeded in 0.06% of samples taken in Tyumen as follows:

- at the intersection of Moris Torez Street and Republic Street: nitrogen oxide, carbon black;

- at Lugovaya St.: carbon black;

- at Belinskogo St.: suspended solids, carbon black;

- at Kotovskogo St.: the maximum allowable concentration of pollutants was not exceeded;

- at the intersection of Irbitskaya Street and Combinatskaya Street: phenol, carbon black.

One episode related to exceeding cumulative effect of contaminants in atmospheric air (sulphur dioxide + nitrogen dioxide + carbonic oxide + phenol) was recorded in 2019.

Twenty-three episodes of adverse weather conditions (40 in 2018) were recorded. Similar to 2018, no cases of increased air pollution were recorded during periods of adverse weather conditions.

The exposure dose of gamma radiation in the area of Tyumen did not exceed the natural background level.

In Tobolsk city, no pollution limits were exceeded in 2019, like in 2018.

Surface waters

In 2019, the following pollutants exceeded the maximum allowable concentration:

the Tura river:

- within the borders of Pokrovskoye settlement: petroleum products, phenol, nitrite nitrogen, ammonium nitrogen, iron, copper, manganese, COD and BOD5;

- within the borders of Salairka settlement, upstream and downstream of Tyumen city: petroleum products, phenol, nitrite nitrogen, ammonium nitrogen, iron, copper, manganese, zinc, COD and BOD5;

The Ishim river:

- within the borders of Ilyinskoe settlement: petroleum products (January-March, August-September), phenol (February, July, October-November), ammonium nitrogen (October), iron (March, May), copper (January-December), manganese (January-May, July-December), COD (January-October, December);

- within the borders of Abatskoye settlement, upstream of Ishim town: petroleum products, phenol, ammonium nitrogen, iron, copper, manganese, COD and BOD5;

- downstream of Ishim town: petroleum products, phenol, ammonium nitrogen, iron, copper, manganese, COD;

The Tobol river:

- within the borders of Iyevlevo settlement: petroleum products (July, October), phenol (May), ammonium nitrogen (April, May, August), iron (April- June), copper (April-August, October), manganese (April-May, July-August, October), COD (April-August, October), BOD5 (April, July-August, October);

- within the borders of Korkino settlement, upwards and downwards of the city of Yalutorovsk: petroleum products, phenol, nitrite nitrogen, ammonium nitrogen, iron, copper, manganese, COD and BOD5;

Twenty-two episodes of high level of manganese pollution were registered in the rivers Tura, Tobol, Pyshma, Tavda and Uk (17 cases in 2018). One case of high level of nitrite nitrogen pollution was found in the Tura river (3 cases in the Tura river in 2018) and the Iset river (no limits were exceeded in 2018).

The extremely high level of manganese pollution was registered in 18 cases: in the rivers Vagai, Demyanka, Iska, Irtysh, Tura, Tobol, Turtas and Uk (27 cases in 2018). One episode of high level of petroleum products pollution was recorded in the Tobol river (no limits were exceeded in 2018).

High and extremely high pollution of the river water was mainly due to the natural factors.

There were no episodes of low level of dissolved oxygen found in the rivers (similar to 2018).

Emergencies with ecological implications

Like in 2018, in 2019 no natural or anthropogenic emergencies with ecological implications were recorded.
